Our favorite pieces always have the best stories to tell. From our beloved large wooden shop-shelf that began its journey in a general store straight out of Laura Ingalls' Big Woods (and made its way to us by way of Anna's father's wood-burning-stove store a decade ago) to the biergarten table we "borrowed" from Two Pony Gardens...until we found an American-made source to get our own and then we put it back (thanks, Mom!) we love a piece that feels like it comes with history. Oh, if these old chairs could speak!
Our founding ethos at The Foundry is to nurture a lifelong relationship with well-made objects of use and beauty. With the stunning, hand-made, cult-favorite wooden toys from Grimm's, that lifelong relationship can start at the very beginning. Plus, is there anything more pleasing to the eye, hand, and heart than a stack of rainbows!?
The Foundry universe contains multitudes. Some of us are "Artists" with a capital A. Some of us love to pick up a brush and play with color and texture when the mood (or the need to send out a few color-washed "thank you" postcards) strikes. Some of us stand, awe-struck and filled with deep longing, in the intensely pleasing infinite-rainbow-stocked aisles of our local art supply store wondering "but, really, what IS gesso??" before walking quietly back to the fancy journaling pens with a sigh.
Flannel is fine and chenille has its time but when we REALLY want to cozy up in the warmest, snuggliest way possible there's only one way to go: wool.
Tiny bubbles, pretty palettes, and organic mouth-blown shapes from a second-generation Belgian glasshouse. There will be fresh flowers. There will be candlelight. There will be champagne towers. Just like we like it.
