Nothing is as evocative of "home" as the smell of Lemon Pledge. Like the scent of popcorn or bubblegum, the unique chemical tang of Pledge (or Old English if that was your family's go-to) immediately transports us to old-fashioned childhood Saturdays helping our parents clean and polish the various corners of the house we'd spent the previous week covering in grubby handprints. One Foundry Father loved Pledge so much he once Pledged the stairs to get them looking their super-shiny freshest. They were indeed beautiful. But so slippery that a Foundry Mama (complete with load of laundry) ended up over teakettle at the bottom, covered in socks.
Whether you are the type of householder who thrives on comprehensive annotated rotating chore charts ("It's the second Sunday, time to tackle these baseboards!") or the kind of person who must blitzkrieg clean the dirty zone when you happen to notice it's dirty ("Oh, hi spotty mirror. BYE spotty mirror!"), one thing is true: tidying up is easier when your dedicated cleaning favorites are all in one place.
One of our grandmothers always told us: you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Then the other one took us aside and said: "Actually, if you want to catch flies, the best way is to put a little dish soap in a jar with some vinegar, poke some holes in some plastic wrap, put it over the top of the jar with a rubber band, and set it out on the counter... clears fruit flies right up!"
