Summer in Tangletown

Summer in Tangletown

It's been almost six months since we moved into our new forever home on West 48th and Grand (!!).

Apparently time flies when you're making beautiful bouquets and hanging on the stoop in the sunshine... When we first moved down to our new digs we absolutely couldn't wait to explore our new 'hood. Now that we've been here for a minute, seen the end of our first winter here, and the days are stretching longer, the sunny afternoons are suitable for keeping our doors thrown open, and the thrill of summer is practically electric in the air, we're loving our sweet shop's breezy corner and our amazing (seriously, amazing) neighbors more than ever. While summer usually has us dreaming of far-flung destinations and wanderlust adventures, this year we're happy to keep it close to home and really do summer in our local. To the lakes!

Thursday Night Mixers: In honor of the aforementioned excellent golden hour vibes we'll be bringing back our Thursday Night Mixers! Sips out of our favorite little glasses, delicious noshes whipped up and served on our collection of Japanese platters, time spent together doing nothing but relishing the day, week, and season. Plus, the wild green zone next to the shop is practically begging for a garden party. Who are we to deny? Kiddoes + pups welcome, check our Instagram for details in real time.

Fuller Park: With its wooded walking trails, killer playground, and pretty gardens, this little park—named after writer and pioneering women's rights activist Margaret Fuller— immediately catty-corner from the shop has been our go-to for taking our evening constitutionals with the girls. Now that it's summer, though, the main attraction is the "Olympic Sized Swimming Pool for Labs"...you might see kiddie wading pool, we see training grounds for Turnip's Michael Phelps dreams.

Tangletown Bike Shop: We feel a certain kinship with this wonderful local bike shop. Before they expanded and moved to their new location, they were the previous tenants in our lovely shopspace (do we sometimes hear the phantom *ding ding* of a bike bell around cocktail hour? just maybe...). Now that prime biking season is upon us we'll be strapping on our baskets and taking our old whips in for a tuneup. They also offer rentals (complete with helmet, lock, and map), ideal for any out of town guests who want to explore the Grand Rounds. Meet you at Sea Salt?

Lake Harriet: Could this little spot BE MORE CHARMING!? A quick walk (and an even quicker ride, thanks Tangletown Bike Shop) away, this park/bandshell/swimming lake hosts outdoor movies and concerts all summer long. Free yoga by the bandshell followed by a (much earned?) impromptu picnic from Bread & Pickle and we're in heaven.

St. Genevieve: It's a tall order for a place that scratches our cozy-curled-up-with-a-toddy-or-bottle-of-lambrusco-in-the-dead-of-winter to ALSO scratch our doors-thrown-open-Frenchy-French-effortless-lunch-at-the-sidewalk-cafe-on-breezy-summertime-afternoon-vibes but St. Genevieve does just that. Call it Shangri-La.

Tangletown 4th of July Parade: Sousa marches, face painting, fire trucks, carnival games, and two very star-spangled chocolate pups? Our kind of neighborhood celebration.

What are your sum-sum-summertime favorites? What are we missing? Or more importantly: what do we need to eat? Come by one of our Thursday Mixers and tell us everything you know!
