4/21/2023 Foundry Giving Friday: B.U.C.K. Squad

Every Friday The Foundry Home Goods contributes 5% of our total sales to a different community-nominated small-and-mighty cause. This Friday's Foundry Giving Friday recipient? B.U.C.K. Squad.

As of Saturday there have been 160 MASS shootings in the US so far THIS YEAR. A mass shooting is when an attacker kills or injures multiple people (consensus is out on how many "makes" a mass shooting but it's usually more than four people...they're so common that defining them becomes a concern)...mass shootings happen all. the. time. and not nearly so common as "regular" shootings which happen so frequently in every single town across America that stats are impossible to keep current on.

Is that what we call this? When one-to-three people kill another one-to-three people with a gun, it's REGULAR? Like, what the fresh hell IS this?? We don't have to live like this. We support sensible gun legislation, we support Everytown, MAD DADS, and Cordale Q. Handy, and this week we're supporting B.U.C.K. Squad. We don't have to live like this.

B.U.C.K. Squad is a community-led gun violence prevention and intervention non-profit working in Charlottesville, Virginia, where our wordsmith Susannah lives. The executive director, Herb Dickerson, spoke last night at the monthly meeting of Susannah's local Mom's Demand Action chapter (local groups are the way to make the greatest direct community impact and they're all over the country—find yours here) and he and his group of essentially self-funded community members have banded together, working inside the community to reduce gun violence by conflict resolution and de-escalation to prevent violence before it happens. We don't have to live like this and groups like B.U.C.K. Squad are working hard to make it so that we don't—let's help them.

If you don't need anything from us, please consider directly supporting B.U.C.K Squad here.

If you DO find yourself in need of anything from us, know that your purchase goes to support good change happening on the community level.

Thanks to Susannah for the nomination (and to Lauren for making sure she always knows when the monthly meeting is)!

If YOU have a worthy cause to nominate for our Foundry Giving Friday initiative, pop on over to our Nomination Page and drop us a line. We're all in this together.
