HEY GUYS! EARLY VOTING FOR THE MINNEAPOLIS MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS STARTS TODAY!
You may be thinking: Wait. It's election season, again!? Didn't we, like, just do this? And, let us say, Yes we did and IT SURE IS, WOO HOO!
If you're wondering who + what's on the ballot and when, where, and what you need to do about it, the League of Woman Voters Minneapolis has you covered with this here handy dandy document.
The thing about elections is that we are (very purposefully) cultured to be made to think of them as a bummer or a hassle and hey let's just sit this one out because it's really too much of a bother to pay attention and do this whole rigamarole again. Instead, allow us to suggest a subtle paradigm shift: as soon as you hear mention of the word "PUMPKIN SPICE" you know IT'S ELECTION TIME!
After all, if an entire swath of the population can spend a delighted seasonal month going starry-eyed over nutmeg coffee, we can certainly all spend that same month getting jazzed about voting. With extra foam!
The League of Women Voters Minneapolis, a non-partisan non-profit working to educate, empower, and motivate voters in our fair city for over 100 years, says it best:
If you drive a car, take the bus, ride a bike…
If you own a house, rent an apartment, pay taxes…
If you breathe the air, drink the water, play in a park…
If your concerns are safety, policing, and civil rights…
Then you should care about who runs your city.
And, as nominator Deborah says: It is so important to make sure EVERYONE can vote in this election!
We couldn't agree more. If you don't need anything from us, please consider donating directly to League of Women Voters Minneapolis here.
If you DO find yourself in need of a blank Danish calendar for marking things like "mayoral candidate forum" or "Apple Crisp Macchiatos + redistricting launches today" or a new broom for giving things a clean sweep up and down the ballot, know that your purchase goes to support good change happening on the community level.
Thanks to Deborah for the nomination!
If YOU have a worthy cause to nominate for our Foundry Giving Friday initiative, pop on over to our Nomination Page and drop us a line. We're all in this together.
