Every Friday The Foundry Home Goods donates 5% of our total sales to a different community-nominated small-and-mighty cause. This Friday's Foundry Giving Friday recipient? THE DRIP Mobile Shower Unit!

What is an essential human right? What do humans deserve to have in the great constellation of necessary compassion? Do we need food? water? shelter? What about just being clean? Do humans deserve that??

We've written before how lack of access to the simple services that speak to the very most basic human needs and requirements is just one of the major, debilitating trickle-down symptoms of poverty, racism, and systemic oppression. Yes. People deserve to be clean. We mean, people deserve the world and more, but for heaven's sake! People deserve to be clean! 

THE DRIP Mobile Shower Unit is a Minneapolis-based non-profit-pending working on building movable infrastructure to provide 100+ hot showers a day to anyone who needs them. Using an ice fishing house sub-frame (!) for greater accessibility, THE DRIP will have six standard shower stalls and at least one ADA-compliant stall for families and those who are differently abled. As co-founder Marx Barry says "Anyone who has ever showered or bathed can relate to how good that is. Feeling good and human is necessary. It's just a human thing."

THE DRIP is a simple now-focused solution to a complex long-term problem. Like past Giving Friday recipients The People's Laundry (offering free laundry services) and 612M*A*S*H (offering free health care), The Drip focuses on addressing the daily needs of basic humanity for the unhoused, NOW. While our communities are working towards naming and addressing the root causes of needless human suffering, people still deserve to be clean.
