2/26/2021 Foundry Giving Friday: Honor The Earth

Every Friday The Foundry Home Goods donates 5% of our total sales to a different community-nominated small-and-mighty cause. This Friday's Foundry Giving Friday recipient? Honor The Earth!

Last week we had the pleasure of sitting down with our own dear KP for a little distanced-Foundry-Family catch up. We talked about everything from beeswax to book recommendations, soil health to land sovereignty. She said something that stuck with us: How we treat the land runs parallel to how we treat ourselves. With that in mind, this week's Giving Friday nomination is coming from KP: Honor The Earth.

Here is KP from the @honortheearth feed, shown earlier this year in front of the frozen Mississippi about a mile south of where Enbridge is working on the pipeline in Palisade, MN:

Honor The Earth is a national Indigenous-led Native mission working to raise awareness and direct funds to grassroots Native environmental groups. They are the only Native organization that provides both financial support and organizing support to Native environmental initiatives. This model is based on strategic analysis of what is needed to forge change in Indian country, and it is based deep in their communities, histories, and long-term struggles to protect the earth. They say it best:

In our Anishinaabe prophecies, this is called the time of the Seventh Fire. This is a time when our people will have two roads ahead of us - one miikina, or path, which is well-worn - but scorched - and another path which is green. It will be our choice upon which path to embark.  That is where we are.

Honor the Earth uses indigenous wisdom, music, art, and the media to raise awareness and support for Indigenous Environmental Issues. They leverage this awareness and support to develop financial and political capital for Indigenous struggles for land and life.

There have been victories—four other pipelines were proposed and they are all either cancelled or in legal limbo. Enbridge's Northern Gateway (to Pacific) and Trans Canada's Energy East are cancelledKinder Morgan/Trudeau Trans Mountain has had all permits nullified, Keystone is in legal challenges. Now the challenges begin to stop Line 3.

There is much work to do to honor the power and blessing of this land—healing it and and giving it back, turning systems of conquest back into systems based on just relationships with each other and with the natural world, and Honor The Earth is doing that work. Simple as that. See more @honortheearth.

We are pleased and proud to support this necessary work this Foundry Giving Friday! If you don't need anything from us, consider donating directly  If you DO find yourself in need of beeswax or bulk supplies, know that your purchase goes to support good change happening on the community level.

If YOU have a worthy cause to nominate for our Foundry Giving Friday initiative, pop on over to our Nomination Page and drop us a line. We're all in this together.
