Every Friday The Foundry Home Goods donates 5% of our total sales to a different community-nominated small-and-mighty cause. This Friday's Foundry Giving Friday recipient? Hired!
Hired is a Minneapolis-based non-profit dedicated to nurturing purpose and advancing economic opportunity for all through individualized employment and career services. In short: helping good people get good jobs.
As many an aspirational poster will tell you: do what you love and it will never feel like work. Uh...sure, we guess? Uniting passion with purpose, skill with suitability, need with want, and opportunity with access is—spoiler alert—way more complicated than an ombre-tone instagram text graphic would have you believe (shocker!). It should probably say: find work that speaks best to you as a whole person and be fulfilled by your own self-actualization—in that sense it will feel like work, and work will feel good.
Hired isn't a job posting board—we actually reached out to them when on our own recent hiring journey and they said their work isn't about finding *one* individual job, but rather, building up workers who then have the tools to develop and expand their own careers. How do they do it? With specialized, individually tailored career training in high-growth sectors, youth services that provide coaching, support, and training to help youth and young adults complete a diploma or GED, explore careers, and gain employment in a field they’re passionate about, and professional career guidance, training assistance, and job placement services.
Hired offers a full complement of support offerings to allow participants to discover and nourish their own strengths. This means knowing what resources are available and how best to use them. Discovering the whole person. Connecting them with the right training. Hired champions people building sustainable careers that support not only each participant, but their families, employers, and communities as well.
Thank you to Cassie for the nomination!
