Every Friday The Foundry Home Goods donates 5% of our total sales to a different community-nominated small-and-mighty cause. This Friday's Foundry Giving Friday recipient? Dream Of Wild Health!
Dream Of Wild Health is an intertribal, independent non-profit dedicated to restoring health and well-being in Native communities by recovering knowledge of and access to healthy Indigenous foods, medicines, and lifeways. Through education and outreach, including work on their Indigenous-run farm in Hugo, they are reconnecting the urban Native American community with traditional Native plants and their culinary, medicinal, and spiritual uses. Don't just talk the "I'm reading 'Braiding Sweetgrass'" talk, walk the "I'm actively supporting Indigenous food-and-lifeways" walk.
From their Indigenous Food Share CSA (including Indigenous foods like ground cherries, wild harvested foods, berries, Indigenous salad mixes such as amaranth greens and lambs quarters, wild rice, and Indigenous squash varieties) to their "Garden Warriors" Youth Leadership program, from their founding role in establishing the Indigenous Seedkeepers Alliance and the organization of the Indigenous Food Network to the care and maintenance of their own in-house seed library (started by a donation of rare seeds from Cora Baker, a Potawatomi elder), Dream Of Wild Health is working to empower the Native community by strengthening families and communities around good food, healthy choices, and restoring and honoring their relationship with the land.
Thank you to our friend Ani Loizzo for the nomination (and also Anna's friend + neighbor Sarah Rubinstein, who you might remember captured this stunning portrait of Ruby took the photo above for Dream Of Wild Health! Small world/we love to see it!).
We are pleased and proud to support this nourishing, eternal work, this Giving Friday and always. If you don't need anything from us, consider donating to Dream Of Wild Health directly
If you DO find yourself in need of any goodies—such as some Seed Savers Exchange Seeds (about which Dream of Wild Health says "They are doing great work to Rematriate our Indigenous seeds back to their Tribal Nations")—know that your purchase goes to support good change happening on the community level.
If YOU have a worthy cause to nominate for our Foundry Giving Friday initiative, pop on over to our Nomination Page and drop us a line. We're all in this together.
