Every Friday The Foundry Home Goods contributes 5% of our total sales to a different community-nominated small-and-mighty cause. This Friday's Foundry Giving Friday recipient? Center For Human Rights In Iran.
Wednesday marked 40 days since the killing of Mahsa Zhina Amini, 22. Yesterday marked 40 days since the killing of protester Nika Shakarami, 16. The 40th day after death is traditionally commemorated according to Islamic tradition—and protesters and mourners were met with hails of bullets.
As of 10/15 State Security Forces had killed over 233 people and thousands have been beaten, arrested, or detained while standing for basic human during protests ignited by the murder of Mahsa Amini. With the country under a state-controlled internet blackout designed to limit the information shared about the regime’s brutal response to the protests and abhorrent treatment of their citizens, sharing stories of solidarity and protest is more critical than it’s ever been. As is sharing support.
Center For Human Rights In Iran is an Irani-led, NYC-based organization that has been working to protect and promote human rights in Iran since 2008. In those 14 years, they have helped to change death penalty laws, successfully advocated for stays of execution for juveniles, secured medical releases for prisoners in Iran, advocated with governments and major international organizations, and partnered with activists around the world to inform the international community of the state of human rights in Iran in service of advancing basic rights and freedoms and holding Iran accountable to its international obligations.
