Every Friday The Foundry Home Goods donates 5% of our total sales to a different community-nominated small-and-mighty cause. This Friday's Foundry Giving Friday recipient? ZACAH!

No one should go to sleep hungry, not have money for food or medicine, be unable to afford an education, or struggle to meet day-to-day needs. The fact that this is a truth in our nation reflects a collective decision that this is somehow acceptable. ZACAH is a local Twin-Cities-based non-profit working to provide support and basic human services to people in need on the most elemental level.

Income disparity in the U.S. continues to grow. 70% of Americans have less than $800 to bear an unexpected expense before they lose their job or utilities, or face unsheltered homelessness. And these chasms of inequity yawn ever-deeper under the pressures of the Pandemic. Until the root causes of systemic oppression can be cured, ZACAH resolutely works to address the symptoms.  

Tent sanctuary cities popping up in public parks is no one's idea of a viable long-term solution to unsheltered homelessness (and neither is violent forcible eviction from those places with bulldozers a viable long-term solution for reducing the need for them). However, when people are in need—like, truly in need of the real deal dire bare minimum requirements for humanity which we all deserve: shelter, sustenance, and dignity—it isn't up to us to wait...why? whattabout...? It's up to us to be humans in the world and act with compassion and generosity. Like our Anna always says: if someone needs help, you just help them. That's it.

ZACAH provides emergency financial assistance, prevents homelessness, job loss and hunger. In 2017, they opened a transitional living home and their goals are expanding: they are forming a Partnership Against Homelessness, working with over ten organizations in the Twin Cities, and plan on expanding their transitional home to a larger facility to provide safe, dignified housing for anyone in need.

This is our responsibility. This is our society. These are our neighbors. That's it.
