1/8/2021 Foundry Giving Friday: Reel Start

Every Friday The Foundry Home Goods donates 5% of our total sales to a different community-nominated small-and-mighty cause. This Friday's Foundry Giving Friday recipient? Reel Start!

Reel Start is an LA-based non-profit working with young students to educate and empower fresh voices to change their world through the power of film.

In LA, the film industry is ubiquitous, but how to get your foot in the door? Unless you "know someone", it's almost as if "going to a Mall of America and waiting to be 'discovered'" is the only narrative arc anyone has on how to "make it". Founded in 2016 by director Evan Goldberg (Superbad, The Boys, The Disaster Artist) and Educator Adrienne Slover, Reel Start builds a path from the classroom to the film industry, giving students from underrepresented communities the chance to turn their stories into films, and their passion for filmmaking into a lifelong pursuit. Powered by industry volunteers (like, actual famous people!), young filmmakers are given hands-on support, instruction, and (perhaps most importantly) access—both to create their own film and to find their own role on film sets. New voices matter. Places...and...ACTION!

If you don't need anything from us, please consider donating directly to Reel Start.

If you DO find yourself in need of beeswax replenishment or a new favorite dishbrush, know that your purchase goes to support good change happening on the community level.

Thanks to Andy for the nomination!

If YOU have a worthy cause to nominate for our Foundry Giving Friday initiative, pop on over to our Nomination Page and drop us a line. We're all in this together.
