The NAACP Legal Defense Fund uses the power of the law to fight for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, the Legal Defense Fund seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. Most recently for them that includes work on police misconduct, redistricting, protecting, maintaining (and, god willing, advancing) Voting Rights, and—pure and simple—Truth.

At the current moment, that aspirational American promise, those "self-evident truths"—that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness—have once again become a proposition in need of defending. This is the defense that the NAACP Legal Defense Fund puts forward, here by law, so that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
