Ikenobo Garden Scissors

Availability: In stock (1)
In the 1500's Japanese master of flower arranging Senno Ikenobo taught, "Not only beautiful flowers but also buds and withered flowers have life, and each has its own beauty. By arranging flowers with reverence, one refines oneself." These traditional "ikenobo" garden scissors are designed to revere and honor buds, blossoms, and branches, preparing them for arrangement and beyond. Hand-forged in the Sanjo Niigata by a artisans who began their tradition manufacturing katana swords over 160 years ago, these scissors are a true pleasure. The sturdy sharpness of the blades makes quick work of thick or woody stems and the precise angle to the blades keeps the cut ends from being squeezed and bruised while pruning, allowing for better water flow once cut. The delightful curved ends of the handles aren't just lovely (or necessarily meant for tying a leather throng through and hanging from your belt like an herbologist abbess), they are called warabi-te (蕨手, "furled bracken") and are used for crushing woody stems to increase hydration. Looking at you lilacs. 6 1/2" long (2 1/4" blade)
